March Madness

I performed five concerts at local retirement homes in the month of March!

Echo M. Wilson and I had so much fun performing for the residents at Town Village Arlington. While I was singing Cole Porter’s “Begin the Beguine” one of the residents jumped up and began dancing. She had told me prior to the concert that this song was her favorite Cole Porter song. My good friend, Billye Poston Hines joined this lively lady. Poor Billye was more winded than the retired resident. The young man in the picture to my left agreed to let me sing Kern’s song “Bill” from Showboat to him, even though his name is ‘John’. Several of the residents sang along.

Sara Jane Davis and I had a great time performing at Franklin Park. Clarence Mauk, my dad pictured below on the left, came along for the ride. Martin Colbert, the handsome devil on the right, stole a dance with me when I sang Over the Rainbow, from The Wizard of Oz. Several of the residents told me the music on the program brought back wonderful memories.

Thunder Thighs!

…and my Thunder Thighs
don’t Clap no mo’…

Lost my thunder thighsIt occurred to me after losing 15 more pounds with Take Shape For Life that my thunderous thighs are no longer noisy.

No seriously – the sound wasn’t truly thunderous more of a delicate, consistent “swish”. The swishing sound was a result of my support panty-hose rubbing together. Had I not worn panty-hose I’d just have chapped thigh syndrome. Oh, and I did have a tendency to wear out pants in the inner thigh area. Too much information?? Too bad! I continue!

Sometimes we get so focused on the weight our scales register that we forget to take account of other signs of “going healthy”. It may just possibly be that other people are noticing your progress.

So don’t lose heart, just get back on the 5 & 1 plan and go healthy with me, Coach Carla Fay. I’m selling the idea of leading the healthiest life possible.

The Secret (English Translation):
Tell me about the secret your solitary harp
Shares with you at the end of the day?
Tell me, if from your heart, revealing the mystery,
It exhales a sigh of love?
If your intimate thought revealed in your soul
Tells you about fear or about hope;
If you feel beneath your fingers a moist chord,
And if you sing in order to cry.

Tell me, if by tuning a more tender note,
Your heart is sometimes troubled;
If the voice of an absent one suddenly is heard,
If you respond to this voice?

But no, say nothing, sing, sigh, cry,
Hide the secret of your heart;
If you ever say it, it will make me die
Of despair or of ecstasy.
